We are seeking an Optician (Optical Dispenser) to support the Veteran community in the Clarksburg, WV area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals. Requirements

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be certified by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s in Ophthalmic Technology is a plus.
  • State licensing not required in the state of West Virginia.
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
  • If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule: Full-time, 8 Am-4:30 Pm Mon-Fri. No call, weekends, or federal holidays.
  • Shall be responsible for helping Veteran beneficiaries by greeting them, determining lifestyle needs for prescription eyewear, assisting with frame selection, and making recommendations.
  • Verify eyeglass prescription specifications provided by the VAMC Optometry or Ophthalmology clinics.
  • Fill medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions as written by the privileged VA eye care provider.
  • Ensure medical justification is within prescriptions for any add-ons.
  • Communicate with primary eye care providers for prescription updates.
  • Conduct on-site optical fitting and dispensary services.
  • Perform measurements for pupillary distances, segment heights, base curves, and review final frame selection choice with the Veteran beneficiary.
  • Making minor repairs and adjustments to eyewear as needed.
