SUMMARY Provides direct patient care including interpreting and filling written optical prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses. They recommend appropriate lens materials and designs based on patients' visual needs, lifestyle, and preferences, and advise patients on proper frame selection, fit, comfort, and overall visual performance. As a recognized patient-centered medical home (PCMH), every employee is responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of quality, comprehensive patient-centered care as a member of the patient's care team. By performing the job expectations described below, you will be an active member of the care team, thereby ensuring patients have access to team-based, coordinated, comprehensive, quality care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Understanding of the anatomy of the eye as well as normal, abnormal vision and perception.
  • Experience in rural, community-oriented care.
  • Certification in CPR/BLS as appropriate to their practice.

  • Certification by American Board of Opticianry

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients with lens materials, products and designs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Optometrists and other healthcare professionals when necessary.
  • Stay updated on advancements in optometry and eye care treatments.
  • Document patient charts in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Assist with in-service training for staff.
  • Serve on appropriate organization committees and teams to advocate for vision services.
  • Participate in community health promotion projects.
  • Pursue activities of community involvement to increase awareness of and ensure the positive image of MedLink Georgia and the Vision Center to which they are assigned.
  • Participate in the corporation's Quality Assurance Program and adhere to all established quality protocols.
  • Performs prescription analysis such as interpreting and transposing.
  • Design complete eyewear products by incorporating frame design elements, lens materials and optics with patient's prescription and lifestyle requirements.
  • Performs eyeglass frame adjustments and repairs.
  • Include proper alignment of frame, comfortable fit, functional vision and instructions on proper wear and care of eyeglasses.
  • Performs accurate measurements of lens power, pupillary distance, multifocal segment height, lens base curve, vertex distance, and prism power.
  • Orders custom lens products from wholesale optical laboratories, monitors process, post charges and bill insurance when needed.
  • Orders contact lenses for patients.
  • Verifies lens prescriptions of ordered lenses and check for accuracy.
  • Assists in the return of authorized merchandise to manufacturers and prepare credit forms.
  • Maintains inventory of office supplies and other materials necessary to properly run the department.
  • Maintains instruments and hand tools used in the office.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
