Position Summary: As the Licensed Optician, you will play a vital role in assisting patients with retail optical purchases, adjustments, and repairs. You will specialize in designing, fitting, and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses to help individuals correct their vision. You will be tasked with ensuring that prescriptions are properly filled and that patients receive the appropriate eyewear for their needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A.B.O. certification required.
  • Desire to further knowledge by attending continuing education seminars and optical conventions.
  • A willingness and desire to learn by instruction from Optical Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, co-workers and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with frame selection, lens choices, and adjustments/repairs.
  • Open/close the optical department as scheduled.
  • Post sales, balance transactions, and submit to Accounts Payable.
  • Maintain inventory (posting and physical counts).
  • Educate patients on contact lenses and order them as needed.
  • Ensure accurate, complete orders with no remakes.
  • Provide information on lenses, coatings, sunglasses, discounts, etc.
  • Review warranties, return policies, and other relevant details with patients.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for hardware when needed.
  • Stay informed about local optical plans.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts.
  • Adhere to RMEC policies (punctuality, attendance, dress code).
  • Show flexibility in job assignments and pride in RMEC’s success.
  • Demonstrate initiative in achieving practice goals.
  • Special projects and other duties may be assigned as needed.
