About The Position

As an Optical Test Engineer in the Optical Systems department, you will lead measurement and test setup, execution, and lab operations on an optical manufacturing production floor. This role spans dimensional metrology, electrical/electronic test, and test automation, bridging hands-on measurement and validation work with fixture feedback, software-based test tooling, and cross-team supply planning to ensure the team has the equipment, tooling, and consumables needed to stay ahead of shortages, while driving continuous improvement on test methods and reliability. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will provide technical expertise to solve challenging engineering problems and optimize optical design and manufacture.

Requirements

Demonstrated experience in metrology, test engineering, quality, or a measurement/test lab environment.
Demonstrated experience with measurement equipment (CMM, optical comparators, gauges, etc.) and basic electrical test.
Basic understanding of GD&T and dimensional tolerances.
Basic understanding of embedded systems or firmware test concepts.
Comfortable managing procurement/inventory tracking alongside technical duties.
Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
Must have technical writing skills necessary to generate product evaluations and test reports.
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Nice To Haves

Experience with test automation/data acquisition, e.g., Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar software for test execution or data collection (highly preferred).
Experience in the optomechanical industry (highly preferred).
Exposure to SPC or process improvement tools (preferred).
Knowledge of drafting programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform dimensional inspections and measurements using CMM, optical/vision systems, and hand gauges.
Set up and execute electrical/electronic tests using instrumentation such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
Develop and run automated test scripts, e.g., Python, to improve test coverage, cycle time, and repeatability across mechanical, electrical, and software test cases.
Provide process input on fixtures, gauges, and test setups in use; identify issues and propose design/process improvements.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to measurement/test methods, cycle time, and repeatability.
Interpret measurement and test output data, document results, and communicate findings to engineering.
Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and defect/bug documentation for hardware and software test activities.
Support new equipment qualification and test method validation as needed based on final image performance specifications (e.g., MTF, image quality).
Support preventive maintenance and calibration scheduling for measurement and test equipment.
Own resource and supply planning across the teams; track and forecast consumables (metrology/test supplies, 3D printer expendables, computer/IT needs).
Manage procurement requests and maintain vendor relationships to prevent shortages.
Maintain inventory of measuring instruments, test equipment, and related tooling.
Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, etc.
Execute daily process improvement using lean manufacturing methodologies.
Maintain work area by the use of 6S principles.
Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your supervisor or manager immediately.
