About The Position

Akima Facilities Operations is looking for an Optical Technician to work in Fort Hood, TX. An Optical Technician is a professional who specializes in the design, fabrication, and maintenance of optical systems and devices. These systems and devices can include telescopes, cameras, binoculars, and medical equipment such as microscopes, site devices and endoscopes. The role of an optical technician often involves utilizing precision measuring equipment and specialized software to create and test optical components and systems. In addition, optical technicians may also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing optical equipment, as well as providing technical support to customers and other team members. Optical technicians typically possess a strong understanding of physics and mathematics, particularly as they pertain to light and optics. Additionally, they must have excellent attention to detail, as well as the ability to work with precision equipment and tools. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are also important, as optical technicians are often called upon to troubleshoot and repair complex optical systems. Requirements

  • 2+ years of proven proficiency with optical tools and instrument.
  • Two-year technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or the equivalent in a technical field
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to receive a favorable Tier-1 Investigation and obtain/maintain a CAC.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Optical Technology or related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on optical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with optical systems.
  • Calibrate and align optical systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Install and commission new optical systems.
  • Test and verify the performance of optical systems.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide technical support to other team members and assist with training as needed.
