About The Position

An Optical Technician delivers a world-class Total Patient Experience by maximizing retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role dispenses and fits glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions written by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, and connects patients’ needs with available goods and services. The technician helps patients choose suitable frames and lenses, takes optical measurements, dispenses orders, and repairs or adjusts frames.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in a position interacting with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable background check result as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience.
Previous ophthalmic experience.
ABO certification.
NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience, building relationships with patients while providing medical support.
Determine patient wants and needs and sell products and services to exceed expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect measurements including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using the current process.
