About The Position

An Optical Technician helps deliver a world-class Total Patient Experience by maximizing retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. The role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contact lenses based on prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists, and connecting patients’ needs with the products and services offered.

Requirements

At least one year in a position involving interaction with customers or patients, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Favorable result on a background check as required by state.
Proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 pounds; strong fine motor skills and full use of hands; and required visual and auditory acuity.

Nice To Haves

Previous medical office experience.
Previous ophthalmic experience.
ABO certification.
NCLE certification.

Responsibilities

Build relationships with patients while delivering medical support and executing the Total Patient Experience.
Determine patient wants and needs and recommend products to exceed their expectations.
Help patients select frames based on style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions.
Operate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Educate patients and recommend lenses, lens coatings, and frames suited to their needs.
Accurately collect optical measurements, including bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust frames.
Dispense glasses and contact lens orders using current processes.
