About The Position

Teledyne FLIR Defense is seeking an Optical Machine Technician to join their manufacturing facility in Freeport, PA. This role involves operating various machines used in the fabrication and measurement of optical components for thermal imaging cameras, gimbals, scopes, and other military products. The position offers opportunities for cross-training on multiple machines. Requirements

  • Able and willing to work 1st shift hours during training and then transition to 2nd or 3rd shift hours.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Able to lift 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Able to grip, grasp, and work with hands on products repetitively.
  • Able to follow direction and coaching from others.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.

Nice To Haves

  • Machining experience strongly preferred.
  • Optical manufacturing experience a plus/preferred.
  • Experience using basic shop tools such as calipers, micrometers, drop gauges preferred.
  • Experience performing visual inspections of small parts for defects strongly preferred.
  • Experience handling delicate parts/pieces throughout a manufacturing process strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various machines including diamond turning, conventional polishing, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) polishers and grinders, and Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF).
  • Perform various functions associated with the fabrication of optical components such as profiling, cutting, milling, grinding, beveling, blocking, polishing, edging, cleaning and testing using appropriate machines and equipment.
  • Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical components for accuracy and quality.
  • Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Follow appropriate safety and equipment maintenance procedures.
