About The Position

BJ's Wholesale Club is seeking an Optical Licensed Manager to lead their optical team. This role involves performing optician duties alongside managerial responsibilities, including managing, teaching, and coaching optical team members, interacting with members, confirming appointments, and maintaining the department. The Optical Manager acts as a liaison between members and the lab to ensure timely order processing. The advertised pay range does not include additional compensation from manager bonus and spiff programs. The role emphasizes leadership, team member development, member service excellence, and driving department performance and profitability.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to work as an optician within the State and keep license up to date and active.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing/supervising cross-functional teams, training team members, and driving and communicating results.

  • Open shift availability required.
  • At least 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma, college degree, and/or big box wholesale, retail, optical, and/or management experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all duties required of an optician.
  • Managing, teaching, and coaching optical team members.
  • Interacting with Members, confirming appointments, and ensuring department upkeep.
  • Serving as the liaison between members and the lab to ensure timely order processing.

  • Driving performance and profitability by using reporting to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Correcting process breakdowns before they negatively impact club performance.
  • Communicating the connection between operational performance and financial targets to the team.
  • Providing a high level of Member service, including answering calls and scheduling appointments.
  • Being open and honest in communication and maintaining a friendly demeanor.
  • Supporting Members in making eyeglass adjustments, taking measurements, and reading prescriptions.
  • Providing timely notification of product readiness and handling money transactions.
  • Completing paperwork to place and process orders.
  • Managing sales opening and closing procedures at the end of the shift.
  • Ensuring accurate funds are collected and payments are made at the point of service.
  • Educating patients on product benefits and recommending products to improve visual needs.
  • Engaging with members in front of the Optical department during downtime.
  • Communicating and following up with Club Manager and Regional Optical Manager regarding department performance, maintenance, team member performance, and doctor relations.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workstation/Optical department.
  • Supervising all team members in the Optical department, including training, separations, promotion recommendations, and coaching.
  • Maintaining all club policies and procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
