About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, with technologies that push the boundaries of what's possible. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions. This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groupings, serving various communication infrastructure needs. This internship focuses on supporting technology development by applying quality principles to enhance manufacturing equipment and processes, improve products, and design/evaluate prototypes. Interns will analyze data to identify areas for improvement, make recommendations, present findings, and document their work. Active engagement with cross-functional project teams is expected to solve problems efficiently and meet project requirements.

Requirements

Pursuing a BS/MS in Engineering or Computer Science or related field
Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology (e.g. designing and using critical experiments to drive fundamental understanding)
Data/statistical analysis skills
Analytical problem-solving skills
Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
Results-oriented
Working knowledge or experience with design of experiments (DOE) concepts
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

Responsibilities

Own key project objectives critical to Corning’s success while participating in a team environment.
Interface with various engineering and operations groups to understand potential impacts of product, equipment, and process changes.
Ensure communication is established to address concerns and obtain assistance/buy-in.
Review performance data on new processes/findings and effectively draw conclusions.
Communicate effectively to personnel at various levels up to and including the staff level.
