About The Position

Corning is a world leader in materials science, known for its innovations in glass, ceramics, and related materials. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions for the broader communications industry, serving both carrier and enterprise networks. This internship offers an opportunity to support technology development by applying engineering principles to improve manufacturing equipment and processes, enhance products, and design/evaluate prototypes. Interns will analyze data, make recommendations for improvements, present findings, and document their work, while actively collaborating with cross-functional project teams to solve problems and meet project objectives.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an Engineering program
  • Pursuing a BS/MS Electrical/Mechanical/Materials/Chemical or related engineering major
  • Actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology (e.g. designing and using critical experiments to drive fundamental understanding)
  • Data/statistical analysis skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Results-oriented
  • Working knowledge or experience with design of experiments (DOE) concepts
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May-August 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Own key project objectives critical to Corning’s success while participating in a team environment.
  • Interface with various engineering and operations groups to understand potential impacts of product, equipment, and process changes.
  • Ensure communication is established to address concerns and obtain assistance/buy-in.
  • Review performance data on new processes/findings and effectively draw conclusions.
  • Communicate effectively to personnel at various levels up to and including the staff level.
