The Optical Consultant designs, measures, fits, and adapts lenses and frames for patients according to written optical prescriptions or specifications. This role involves assisting patients with frame selection, measuring customers for eyeglasses, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions, and preparing work orders for the optical laboratory. The consultant also verifies the accuracy of finished lenses and spectacles, adjusts frames and lens positions for optimal fit, and may shape or reshape frames. Key responsibilities include measuring clients' facial and eye dimensions, verifying lens specifications, training patients on contact lens care, explaining vision benefits, preparing work orders, assisting with frame selection, maintaining customer records, recommending optical products, selling eyewear and related goods, adjusting and repairing frames, instructing clients on eyewear use and care, determining lens prescriptions, arranging merchandise displays, understanding backup protocols for system outages, and potentially assisting the Optometrist with patient work-ups. The role requires maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor, keeping commitments, and informing supervisors of work progress. It also involves obtaining and reviewing medical history, and maintaining compliance with various regulations.
