Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • 1 year of experience in payroll, accounting or closely related work.
  • 1 year of transit experience and/or equivalent experience and education required.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Acquire a Virginia Driver's License within 60 days after the date of hire (in instances when an out of state license is not the applicant's current state of residence).
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and the listed software applications associated with performance of assigned work is essential.
  • Basic problem-solving skills associated with software applications used is expected.
  • Software usage relevant to job duties will be evaluated.
  • Software applications: MS Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, HASTUS, Workday; proficient in HASTUS and Workday is required.
  • Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm.
  • Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures and policies.
  • Take an active part in reporting unsafe conditions and any hazards within the workplace to their Supervisor, Manager and/or the Safety Department.
  • Work requires operation of a computer.
  • Work involves meeting multiple demands on a timely basis.
  • Duties may require some seasonal overtime.
  • Work involves inflexible deadlines.

  • Knowledge of union contract provisions affecting operator’s hours, pay and benefits.

  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative in accordance with the accepted policies and procedures when faced with difficult or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in HASTUS and Workday module with minimum supervision.
  • Knowledge of the Drug and Alcohol Policy and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains attendance and leave records; verifies and corrects leave and work hours data in HASTUS.
  • Maintains daily time and attendance records for operators; processes requests for sickness and absences; advises appropriate personnel of circumstances to be investigated.
  • Bi-weekly processing of the merge (operator payroll).
  • Verifies HASTUS time created to time transferred to Workday for accuracy.
  • Enters data into computerized databases.
  • Maintains attendance cards.
  • Checks and verifies operators’ hours.
  • Tracks operator vacation and personal time, sick leave, leave of absences and FMLA leave.
  • Maintains a knowledge of the bargaining unit contract and work rules.
  • Keeps the Manager of Bus Transportation informed of any problems through effective communication.
  • Maintain working relationship with Operators, Supervisors, and other personnel.
  • Performs a variety of specialized clerical and administrative duties in support of the department.
  • Prepares daily and special reports as required.
  • Organizes department files and manages records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policy and Procedures.
