About The Position

Responsible for the advanced and complex professional public health nutrition and dietetic work as a Senior Public Health Nutritionist in the Florida Department of Health Nassau County. Assists in the planning, conduction, and administration of a generalized nutrition program in a designated health clinic/site. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nutrition Program Director. Works 100% with Women, Infants, & Children’s Program (WIC). Performs nutrition risk assessments according to WIC policy and procedures. Provides nutrition counseling and education to clients including infants, children up to 5 years, pregnant women, postpartum women, and breastfeeding women. Assists clients with goal setting to improve nutrition and health status. Documents assessment, education, and referrals in FL-WISE. Ensures proper documentation as required by policy, local procedures, and quality improvement chart audits. Coordinates and performs reassessment and education to high-risk clients and other clients according to state and local protocol. Assigns appropriate tailored food packages. Reviews medical documentation and foods forms and WIC referral forms. Accepts according to state and local protocol and procedures. Obtains anthropometric and hematological data for WIC certifications, recertifications, and rechecks as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by Nutrition Program Director.

  • Ability to teach clients specific health issues, promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of disease
  • Knowledge base in nutrition and breastfeeding
  • Individual counseling skills
  • Ability to provide group education
  • Ability to bend, squat, or stand for prolonged amount of time and lift items up to 35 pounds
  • Current license in the State of Florida as a Dietitian/Nutritionist
  • Willingness to provide coverage at all Nassau/Baker WIC sites
  • Must be ablet o bend, squat, or stand for prolonged time, and lift items up to 35 pounds
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.
