About The Position

This position is for an OPS-Sponsored Projects Non-Clerical role in a research laboratory. The assistant will participate in various aspects of laboratory research, including animal care, rehabilitation interventions, behavioral and electrophysiological assessments, and tissue processing. The role involves assisting laboratory staff and researchers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and contributing to data collection and analysis. The position is expected to hire up to two individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-2 years of laboratory or healthcare-related experience.

  • Proficiency in using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in animal care and handling, including acclimation to testing and training environments and postoperative care and monitoring.
  • Conduct daily rehabilitation interventions (e.g., treadmill exercise, diaphragm pacing and gas exposures).
  • Conduct behavioral assessments, (e.g., whole body plethysmography) and extract data.
  • Participate in electrophysiological assessments (e.g., acute and chronic EMG recordings) and extract data.
  • Participate in tissue processing, including sectioning, immunohistochemistry, imaging and quantification.
  • Assist laboratory staff with organization and maintenance of data files.
  • Assist with implementation of all IACUC, EH&S and biosafety protocols.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigator and laboratory graduate students and post-docs to ensure successful completion of ongoing laboratory projects.
  • Participate in general laboratory care and maintenance including preparing solutions and reagents for experiments, cleaning and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Perform data collection and analysis, prepare research updates, reports, and attending weekly lab meetings.
