About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with a strong law enforcement background to join our probation team. This dedicated professional will be responsible for bridging the gap between our agency and key criminal justice agencies to implement a focused-deterrence strategy designed to reduce firearm re-offending among the juvenile population. As the coordinator you will be responsible for building and growing positive, trusting relationships with local law enforcement, courts, and other key agencies and stakeholders. This is not a law enforcement role. You will not carry a badge, make arrests, or enforce laws. Instead, you will use your inside knowledge of the justice system to educate partners, foster collaboration, and support our organizational goals. This position will require travel throughout.

Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of operations.
Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, policies and procedures relating to operations.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
High ethical standards with the ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with discretion.
Strong computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Office Suite including creating PowerPoint presentations.
Proven work experience in law enforcement, parole, probation, or the court system.
Minimum of 3 years of active law enforcement, or criminal justice experience.
A valid driver’s license is required. If initially hired with an out-of-state license, the Florida resident must obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire. License suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purposes/Employment/Education on licenses) and some types of restricted licenses are not acceptable. Licenses that have Corrected Lenses Restrictions are acceptable, provided the driver’s wear corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.
For positions that include the transportation of youth while performing any work or work-related functions on behalf of DJJ, require: (1) a valid driver’s license; and (2) a three-year acceptable driving record as defined in FDJJ Policy 1920.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, or a related field is preferred (equivalent work experience accepted).

Responsibilities

Build strong ties with police departments, sheriff offices, the judiciary, and other stakeholders.
Deliver focused deterrence training to agency staff and various community leaders including law enforcement and judicial partners.
Meet regularly with community leaders and public safety officials.
Explain our program to law enforcement and answer their questions.
Plan and lead outreach events and joint meetings.
Help solve communication problems between our team and outside agencies.
