About The Position

This position is responsible for providing manual housekeeping and general custodial duties, ensuring the cleanliness, minor maintenance, and upkeep of the facilities for the Florida Department of Health of Walton County. The role is identified as sensitive, requiring background screening and fingerprinting. The employee will report to the Maintenance Supervisor for Public Health Facilities of Walton County.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Ability to provide customer service.
  • Ability to provide data entry and operate a computer.
  • Ability to assess maintenance issues and provide solutions.
  • Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and requirements.
  • Knowledge of safe handling of hazardous materials/chemicals.
  • Knowledge of proper handling and storage of bio-medical materials.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards.
  • Minimum – Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to pass a Level II Background screening, including fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning of floors, furniture, and windows in clinics and exam rooms to health department sanitation standards, including deep cleaning as scheduled.
  • Remove trash from exam rooms in accordance with Health Department standards for waste disposal.
  • Conduct general office cleaning duties such as vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors in hallways, public spaces, and conference rooms.
  • Empty trash cans in offices and public areas, clean windows, handrails, doorknobs, push plates, and other high-contact areas to established sanitation levels.
  • Clean lavatories, commodes, mirrors, glass doors, and drinking fountains, and maintain stock of paper towels and toilet paper in dispensers.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning materials, paper products, and maintenance items (e.g., light bulbs, trash bags, sanitizers) in custodial storage rooms, reporting inventory levels regularly.
  • Receive deliveries of supplies, transport cases using hand trucks or carts to storage areas, unpack deliveries, and restock storage room shelves.
  • Monitor facilities, both inside and out, for safety concerns and complete safety inspections as requested, including monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Report safety concerns to the supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining the professional appearance of the Department of Health Facilities in Walton County by keeping inside and outside spaces clean and orderly.
  • Participate in department and staff meetings, reporting any concerns, suggestions, and observations regarding the facility to the supervisor.
  • Perform active duty during disasters as required, which may involve indeterminate periods.
  • Perform emergency duties, including working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or responding to threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural.
