About The Position

This position is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and serves all of the Florida Department of Health in Miami Dade County Unit buildings. This is skilled labor in Facilities and Maintenance which is concerned with general plumbing, carpentry work, painting, remodeling, and related activities. The role is responsible for the maintenance and repairs to DOH in Miami-Dade County buildings, including installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment such as air conditioning units. The position also involves welding and brazing as needed, acting independently for emergencies and routine maintenance, and ensuring all tools are maintained in working condition. Inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies must be maintained, and necessary materials and parts requested to complete work orders. Additionally, the role includes interior and exterior painting, remodeling, moving furniture, performing general plumbing functions, and carpentry work. The mechanic will replace Ultraviolet lights annually, perform routine preventive maintenance, operate government vehicles for supply pick-up and maintenance duties, and support preventative maintenance of vehicles. Communication via a mobile device and submission to electronic location monitoring are required. Assistance with major facility clean-up and moving furniture, office equipment, and file cabinets is also part of the duties. The position is also responsible for assisting with periodic inventory activities and may make purchases of certain supplies, maintaining a purchasing card if applicable, and ensuring accountability of receipts and timely provision of signatures. The role requires attending required training and meetings and performing other duties as assigned or required in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of skilled building trades or mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and document work orders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders to understand needs and convey progress and results.
  • Property Custodian/Delegate – Assigned responsibility for control of department assets.
  • Incumbent in this position is required to have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must always maintain valid driver license.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repairs to DOH in Miami-Dade County buildings.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical and mechanical equipment i.e., air conditioning units.
  • Performs welding and brazing as needed.
  • Acts independently to affect emergencies and/or routine maintenance on demand.
  • Ensure all hand tools and power tools are maintained in overall working conditions providing any necessary maintenance and/or repair required for this purpose.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment as is required to provide the maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintaining inventory of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for requesting any necessary materials and parts to complete assigned work orders.
  • Performs interior and exterior painting, remodeling, moving, and relocating furniture as required.
  • Performs general plumbing functions and a variety of brick, cement, and carpentry work as needed.
  • Responsible for replacing Ultraviolet lights located at the Health Centers once a year.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Operate a government motor vehicle for routine supply pick-up and general maintenance duties.
  • Operate heavy equipment related to the work as necessary.
  • Supports preventative maintenance of vehicles.
  • Ensure vehicle records are timely and accurate.
  • Maintains communication via assigned mobile device and submits to electronic location monitoring.
  • Assist in major facility clean up.
  • Ability to move furniture, office equipment and file cabinets when required.
  • Responsible for assisting with periodic inventory activities to include physical counts, audits, and reporting.
  • Make purchases of certain supplies when assigned.
  • Maintains purchasing card, if applicable.
  • Responsible for accountability of receipts and provision of required signature in timely manner.
  • Assist the purchasing agent to consolidate receipts and invoices of purchases as appropriate.
  • Must always maintain valid driver license.
  • Attend required training and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned or required in the event of an emergency or disaster.
