About The Position

The Radon and Indoor Air Program is part of the Public Health Toxicology Section, Bureau of Environmental Public Health in the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection. This position assists the primary subject matter expert on addressing public health risks regarding chemical, physical and biological agents in the indoor environment. This position will help educate and inform the public about the health risks of indoor air quality issues related to mold, dampness, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, asbestos, and other indoor air contaminants; and on minimizing exposure to infectious aerosols inside building through ventilation, air cleaning, and source control.

Requirements

  • Two years of data processing experience or vocational/technical training in data processing.
  • Two (2) years of experience answering questions from the public.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor’s degree of science with a major in the natural sciences (biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, geology, etc.) or applied public health sciences (industrial hygiene, environmental public health, occupational safety and health, nursing, medical, toxicology, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Serving as indoor air education and public awareness staff
  • Responding to and tracking inquiries from the public and other organizations/agencies
  • Preparing and giving presentations
  • Developing, reviewing, and updating educational and outreach materials
  • Communication is done through phone calls, emails, in-person and online presentations
  • Handling all other duties including emergency duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Some after-hours and weekend travel in Leon County and instate travel may be required to provide outreach presentations.
