About The Position

This position serves as a HABs (Harmful Algal Blooms) education and public awareness staff member within the Public Health Toxicology Section of the Bureau of Environmental Public Health. The role involves attending outreach events, preparing and delivering presentations, answering public inquiries about HABs, and developing educational materials. The position also assists the Environmental Consultant with health notifications, reporting to partner agencies, and presenting on the Department's roles. The employee will handle other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Requirements

Good communication skills (writing, verbal, and presentation).
Proficiency in using Outlook, Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to take scientific information and relay it to the public in an easy-to-understand way.
Understanding of basic science and environmental health.
Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

2 years’ experience working with the public.
A bachelor degree in a physical science.

Responsibilities

Serving as a HABs education and public awareness staff member.
Attending outreach events to promote public awareness.
Preparing Power Point presentation slides for outreach events and presenting to the public at these events during and after regular office hours or on weekends.
Answering HABs questions from the public.
Developing educational materials.
Assisting the Environmental Consultant on sending out health notifications to the local county health departments, reporting out to partner agencies, and presenting on the Department’s roles as needed.
Handling all other duties assigned by supervisor.
