About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for providing dental services in the DOH-Okaloosa Dental Program. The role involves overseeing treatment standards, quality, and productivity of subordinates, ensuring that standards of dentistry are met, maintained, and achieved for services provided. The Dentist supports the Dental Program Manager by overseeing and guiding the professional work of dental assistants and hygienists. Key duties include conducting dental exams, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluations for oral-related pathology and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency surgical procedures and prevention. The Dentist will interpret radiographs and/or intraoral photographs for diagnosis and management of dental infections and related oral diseases. Treatment responsibilities include infections, diseases, injuries, and malformations of the mouth and teeth, performing extractions and other related oral surgical procedures, dental restorative work using composite materials, applying topical fluoride, performing occlusal analysis, scaling and root planing, prophylaxis procedures, and mounting articulated models for lab services. The role also involves providing consultation and referral as required, recording procedures and services rendered to clients, and providing educational and promotional programs related to dental health. Regular meetings with dental staff are expected to review records, reports, and update staff on new policies/guidelines. The Dentist must ensure the accuracy and completeness of dental records and billing sheets, and compliance with Medicaid and OSHA guidelines. Collaboration with the Dental Program Manager is required to maintain and update the Dental Program Policy and Procedure Manual and the Infection Control Manual, ensuring compliance with DOH Dental Program Guidelines. Staying current on Medicaid billing guidelines and sharing updates with staff is crucial. The role includes maintaining an accurate pharmacy log and attending training and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills. The Dentist is responsible for ensuring EARs are input and verified in the HMS system according to DOH/HMS guidelines and deadlines, ensuring EARs time aligns with timesheets. Protecting the confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, stored in hard copy or electronic format is a key responsibility. Consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities regarding oral health issues will be provided. The individual will monitor the quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and assure compliance with all dental record documentation with federal and state law and FDOH Bureau of Dental Program expectations. The role requires independent work and decision-making based on data analysis and knowledge of dental practice. Maintaining skills and completing ongoing training to maintain an active license in accordance with the dental practice act is essential. All other duties assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision will be performed.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Dentist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes
  • Must have a valid U.S. Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Conducts dental exams, diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluations for oral related pathology and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency surgical, prevention.
  • Interprets radiographs and/or intraoral photographs of oral structures for the diagnosis and management of dental infections and related oral diseases.
  • Treats infections, diseases, injuries and malformations of the mouth and teeth.
  • Perform extractions and other related oral surgical procedures.
  • Performs dental restorative work using composite materials.
  • Apply topical fluoride.
  • Performs occlusal analysis.
  • Performs scaling and root planning and prophylaxis procedures.
  • Mounts articulated models for lab services.
  • Provides consultation and referral as required/needed.
  • Records procedures and services rendered to clients in client record.
  • Provides educational programs and promotional programs related to dental health.
  • Meets and coordinates with dental staff members quarterly and as needed to review records and reports and to update staff on new policies/guidelines.
  • Ensures accurateness and completeness of dental records and billing sheets and compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA guidelines for dental program and staff.
  • Collaborates with the Dental Program Manager to maintain and/or update the Dental Program Policy and Procedure Manual and the Infection Control Manual and ensure compliance with DOH Dental Program Guidelines.
  • Responsible for staying current on Medicaid billing guidelines and sharing current information and updates with dental staff.
  • Maintains accurate pharmacy log.
  • Attends training and seminars to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring EARs are input and verified in the HMS system in accordance with DOH/HMS guidelines and deadlines.
  • Ensures EARs time is always in agreement with timesheet.
  • Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic format.
  • Provides consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities regarding oral health issues.
  • Monitors quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Assures compliance with all dental record documentation with federal and state law and with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Bureau of Dental Program expectations.
  • Works independently and makes decisions based on analysis of data and knowledge of dental practice.
  • Maintains skills and completes on-going training to maintain active license in accordance with the dental practice act.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision.
