About The Position

The Ophthalmology Surgical Coordinator accurately completes patient registrations in an efficient, professional, and customer-oriented manner. This role records patient demographic information into the scheduling system, ensuring times, procedures, and surgeons' names are complete and accurate. The coordinator gathers and reviews all relevant data, including fee quote sheets and documents, to ensure correct reimbursement for the department’s services. They coordinate the daily OR schedule as directed by the service administrator/manager, meet with patients to discuss pre-op/post-op and surgery timelines, what to expect, and how to prepare (e.g., holding blood thinners, arranging rides). The position involves posting cases to the OR with all necessary equipment and special instruments/instructions specific to the surgeon, creating prep for cases, and placing orders for all pre-op and post-op appointments. Quality assurance tasks include checking cases, adjusting lineups for surgeons' OR days, and verifying e-consents and pre-op surgical orders. The coordinator responds to phone calls from patients, physicians, medical staff, and peers, determining urgency and suggesting appropriate referrals. They observe policy and procedures to protect patients’ privacy and rights in compliance with HIPAA and all relevant laws, regulations, and standards. This role requires good judgment and initiative, effective communication, and the ability to adapt to variations in workloads, assignments, and interpersonal situations. The coordinator formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers and management and functions as an effective team member. Additionally, they are responsible for projects and assignments as assigned by the Operations Administrator or Manager.
