The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center is expanding and seeks an outstanding corneal surgeon to join our rapidly growing academic department. Applicants must have completed an accredited cornea and external disease fellowship. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and dynamic ophthalmology service dedicated to providing comprehensive cornea and external disease care to the patients of New Mexico and the surrounding region. As part of the UNM Health System, the Eye Clinic provides a rewarding mix of tertiary and safety-net care with a broad spectrum of complex corneal, ocular surface, and anterior segment pathology. The incoming surgeon will have the opportunity to develop a busy clinical and surgical practice with significant opportunities for growth in corneal transplantation, complex anterior segment surgery, ocular surface reconstruction, and advanced corneal disease management. Our department has recently established a three-resident-per-class ophthalmology residency program and continues to experience significant growth. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to make an immediate impact in a state with a significant need for specialized cornea services while developing and expanding advanced surgical skills early in their career. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding patient care, teaching, and research within an academic setting. Opportunities for clinical research and clinical trial participation are available, supported by a growing research infrastructure that includes dedicated research coordinators, technicians, and faculty collaborators.
