Responsibilities include testing visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception, examining eyes with a slit lamp, administering eye drops, measuring intraocular pressure, testing visual fields, and measuring axial length using ultrasound equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice preferred.
  • Certified Opthalmic Assistant (COA) from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) approved institutional course preferred or working towards obtaining certification.
  • Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferable 5 + years experience in Retina Practice.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Tests and measures eye function to assist Ophthalmologist to diagnose and treat eye disorders and disease.
  • Tests patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
  • Examines eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers.
  • Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Measures intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test).
  • Tests patient's field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and charts test results on graph paper.
  • Measures axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment.
  • Performs other tests and measurements as requested by physician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Handles all Patient Correspondence including but not limited to: Disability Forms, Patient Education, Surgical Consent Forms.
  • Performs Slit Lamp Examinations.
  • Completes Medical History, Lensometry, Auto Refracting, Pam Testing, Glare Testing.
  • Performs all aspects of visual acuity testing and Visual Field Testing.
