About The Position

This is a part-time position for an Ophthalmic Technician. The role involves greeting patients, obtaining and transcribing patient history and physician dictations into the EHR, maintaining patient confidentiality, and escorting patients. The technician will assist physicians with supplies, perform various vision tests (visual acuity, autorefraction, lensometry, tonometry, visual field testing, glare testing, color vision testing, Schirmer's tear testing), and determine if further testing is needed. Responsibilities also include reviewing patient charts, posting test results, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety policies. The role requires the ability to work with patients of all ages, including geriatric patients.

Demonstrates compliance with all provisions of safety rules and other policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
Obtains patient history and transcribes results into EHR as physician dictates during patient exam.
Records physician fee tickets in EHR as physician dictates during patient exam.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Escorts patients to appropriate areas.
Assists physicians by obtaining supplies as needed during patient care.
Performs visual acuity tests on patients.
Controls patient flow.
Performs autorefraction and lensometry tests as needed on patients.
Performs tonometry on patients.
Determines if patient needs further testing by technician.
Performs visual field testing, glare testing, color vision testing, Schirmer's tear testing on patients as required.
Reviews patient charts and posts tests and examination results into EHR.
Enters information of prior visits in EHR record.
Cleans and sterilizes equipment and maintains autoclave.
Stocks supplies on an ongoing basis.
Cleans patient exam rooms in relation to testing and equipment.
Checks expiration of medications and supplies and follows up as appropriate.
