About The Position

Northwest Eyes, a nationally recognized ophthalmic medical and surgical practice with vast clinical experience in a wide variety of eye surgical services, advanced technology, and proven results, is searching for an Ophthalmic Technician to add to their team. Team members are responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations, maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status, and assisting Ophthalmologists by performing ophthalmic clinical functions such as patient workups and special testing. The role may also involve administering eye medications, instructing patients on the care and treatment of eye conditions, applying dressings to the eye, and assisting with in-office lasers and procedures.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and conventions.
Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office products, G-suite environments.
Willingness to help in all areas, with flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, and ability to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing.
Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and patient confidentiality.
A strong sense of organization with an attention to detail.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year experience as an ophthalmic assistant.
Maintains appropriate education, certification, licensure, and training.

Responsibilities

Quickly and accurately summarizes and documents what the Ophthalmologist says during an examination, including charting the examination, documenting additions to the chief complaint, assessment, and recommendations for treatment.
Maintains an awareness of the patient’s verbal and non-verbal communication when the Ophthalmologist is providing instructions, potentially repeating information or providing patient education materials.
Ensures the patient understands all instructions.
Takes and documents patients' medical histories.
Operates ophthalmic equipment such as Auto Refractor, Retinoscopes, Phoropters, Slit Lamp, Pentacam/Topography, Wavescan, IOL master/instar, Projectors, Zeiss OCT, and Heidelberg OCT.
Performs tests including Pupil evaluation, Pachymetry, Humphrey Visual Field Testing, Tonometry, Color Vision, Extraocular Muscle Function Testing & Hirschberg Testing, Van Herick measurements, Worth 4-Dot test, and Stereopsis testing.
Triages phone calls from patients and outside contacts following the standard of care for Ophthalmology and office policies.
Sterilizes instruments and maintains ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
Assists patients in inserting or removing contact lenses.
