About The Position

New York & New Jersey Eye Institute is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing clinical team. The ideal candidate will assist ophthalmologists in delivering exceptional patient care by performing comprehensive ophthalmic testing, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, and ensuring efficient clinical workflow in a fast-paced ophthalmology practice.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, and diagnostic testing.
  • Experience with OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photography, Corneal Topography, and other ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and patient-care skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1–2 years of Ophthalmic Technician experience preferred.
  • COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant), COT (Certified Ophthalmic Technician), or COMT certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient medical histories, medications, and chief complaints while performing patient intake.
  • Measure visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure (IOP), pupil assessment, extraocular movements, and other preliminary ophthalmic evaluations.
  • Perform and accurately document diagnostic testing.
  • Prepare patients for physician examinations, office procedures, laser treatments, and surgical consultations.
  • Assist physicians during examinations, in-office procedures, laser treatments, and minor surgical procedures.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, post-procedure instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Accurately document clinical findings and testing results within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Maintain ophthalmic instruments, diagnostic equipment, examination rooms, and clinical supplies.
