Administers and performs diagnostic tests, and provides instruction to patients with correctable vision focusing defects, under the medical direction of a licensed ophthalmologist. Understands and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient in regards to their growth and development process. Obtains necessary data concerning patient's medical diagnosis and history and prepares patient case history. Administers standard ophthalmic tests per physician's order and according to established procedures and standards. Performs diagnostic tests including vision field tests. Performs retinoscopy. Provides the evaluation of patients with eye muscle problems utilizing prisms. Contact lens fitting and dispensing. Explains procedures to patient and/or family and directs patient during treatment and therapy. Instructs patient and/or family in appropriate home care treatment. Prepares reports and completes charting as required and confers regularly with the physician relative to patient's progress.
