About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician Manager is a highly skilled and experienced technician responsible for performing advanced diagnostic testing, assisting in complex ophthalmic procedures, and supporting surgical preparation and execution. This position is key in ensuring clinical efficiency, patient education, and adherence to best practices. In addition to providing expert-level clinical care, the Ophthalmic Technician Manager acts as a working manager/supervisor for the clinical team and assists in training and development initiatives. The Ophthalmic Technician Manager operates under the Clinical Manager's or Practice Manager's direct supervision, helping implement clinical policies, improve workflow efficiency, and enhance overall patient care. This role is ideal for an experienced ophthalmic technician ready for leadership, training, and advanced clinical responsibilities.

Requirements

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) required, COMT Preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of ophthalmic technician experience.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while following clinical protocols.
  • Dependable transportation and flexibility to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document detailed patient history and follow office workup protocols.
  • Perform automated/manual refraction, retinoscopy, and advanced lensometry for prescription accuracy.
  • Conduct visual acuity, pupillary assessments, ocular motility evaluations, and tonometry.
  • Perform visual field testing, osmolarity testing, and diagnostic imaging (OCT, topography, fundus photography).
  • Administer eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions as prescribed.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, assist in minor and refractive procedures, maintain aseptic technique, and calculate intraocular lens power.
  • Conducted A-scan biometry measurements and assisted in contact lens fitting/adjustments.
  • Perform slit lamp evaluations, over-refraction of contact lenses, and triage urgent patient care needs.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and repair to ensure clinical efficiency.
  • Enter and review patient data in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Complete monthly chart audits to ensure compliance with clinical standards.
  • Assist the Preceptor in training and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Supervise and support the clinical team while optimizing workflow and adherence to policies.
  • Travel between office locations as required.
