About The Position

The lead ophthalmic technician is responsible for training, overseeing and assigning daily responsibilities to the technical staff in the department in order to facilitate patient flow. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. The role requires covering clinics at the main hospital, New Berlin, and Mequon on a weekly basis, with daytime hours and no evenings or weekends. The lead technician performs all duties of an Ophthalmic Technician, works closely with the direct manager for new team member orientation, assists with schedule review and staffing, and is responsible for managing sick calls and rearranging daily clinics. They also assist the manager in ensuring annual competencies and re-training opportunities for team members, provide in-depth training and coaching to new employees, and meet regularly with the Manager to discuss departmental improvements, patient satisfaction, staff development, and performance evaluations. Additionally, the lead technician helps resolve employee concerns, maintain morale, and manage medical/ophthalmic supplies, including ordering or delegating supply orders. They ensure a clean and safe working environment and are responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and laws, including HIPPA and patient/employee confidentiality.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of Ophthalmic experience required, preferably in a medical setting
  • Experience in a leadership role preferred
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required (before start date)
  • COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology within 1 Year required

  • COT-Certified Ophthalmic Technologist - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Helps maintain adequate medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam and testing rooms.
  • Responsible for ordering or delegating a team member to order supplies when low.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Children's business.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures including HIPPA and patient and employee confidentiality.
