About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician II supports ophthalmologists by performing advanced clinical tasks, diagnostic testing, and assisting with patient care. This role requires a strong understanding of ophthalmic procedures, excellent patient communication, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The Technician II serves as a mentor to junior staff and contributes to the overall efficiency and quality of eye care services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Positive attitude and a love for helping others!
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office and in electronic health record preferred.
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required.
  • Must be flexible with traveling to various locations as needed.
  • Minimum of three years of ophthalmic technician experience required.
  • COA preferred or the commitment to obtain a COA within three years of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Patient intake and workup, following standardized protocol.
  • Determining visual acuity
  • Performing automated refraction
  • Administering eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions to the eye as ordered by physician.
  • Awareness of patient flow issues and ability to maintain efficient clinical flow.
  • Obtaining and documenting patient history.
  • Measurement of intraocular pressure (tonometry)
  • Pre-operative preparation of patient.
  • Maintaining equipment and instruments
  • Performing office duties and clinical tasks - entering data into EMR, providing patient services
  • Facilitates patient experience by assisting physician in overall patient care.
  • Works within the confines of the team by assisting other departments with answers to questions, patient triage, etc.
  • Counsel and educate the patients as needed.
  • Updates daily schedule by assessing no-shows and add-ins.
  • Stocking and cleaning clinic as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
