About The Position

Located in the heart of Washington, Confluence Health enjoys open skies, snow-capped mountains, and the lakes and rivers of the high desert, actively supporting the communities they serve. The Ophthalmic Tech II position offers up to $2,000 in bonuses for external candidates with at least 2 years of experience, requiring a 1-year commitment to Confluence Health. This role involves working as an assistant with Ophthalmologists/Optometrists, providing technical services to patients. Key duties include gathering patient history, updating medication lists, performing diagnostic imaging, assisting with in-office procedures (like injections and lasers), providing patient education, and processing ophthalmic instruments. The role also encompasses EMR documentation, research, and patient communication.

Requirements

  • Ophthalmology experience of at least six months.
  • Medical Assistant Registered licensure with Washington State Department of Health (apply upon hire, paid by department).
  • Surgical Technologist licensure with Washington State Department of Health (apply upon hire, paid by department).
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (within 90 days of hire).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential skills listed under job function.
  • Proficiency in at least 6 of the listed Diagnostic Tests.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus amidst ongoing distractions and interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to patients and the general public.
  • Telephone etiquette.
  • Skills in organization, time management, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
  • Attentive to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months Lab or imaging work experience.
  • Coursework and/or experience in computerized medical terminology, ophthalmic pharmacology, and ophthalmic anatomy and physiology.
  • Past experience Instructing patients with the insertion and removal techniques and care for contact lenses.

Responsibilities

  • Follow standard work to obtain patient medical history and confirm purpose of visit.
  • Perform basic vision tests according to standard work-up by exam type.
  • Understand and manage patient workflow for maximum efficiency.
  • Instill topical ophthalmic ointment/drops under the direction of the physician.
  • Obtain vital signs according to protocol.
  • Clean and setup rooms between patients; restock room supplies and medications as needed.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and clean instruments and equipment per protocol.
  • Perform basic clinical eye testing: Tonometry – GAT, iCARE, Tonopen, Color Vision testing, Stereo Vision testing, Refraction, Pachymetry.
  • Perform diagnostic eye testing depending upon training, including but not limited to: Optical Coherence Tomography – MAC, Optical Coherence Tomography – NERVE, Optical Coherence Tomography - AF, IOL Master Biometry, Topography, Autorefraction, Auto-Lensometry, Optos, Chronos, Pentacam.
  • Assists with in-office procedures including injections and lasers, including set up and clean up according to protocol.
  • Educates patient per physician and/or department protocol.
  • Manages Epic in-basket, prescription refill requests and other practice management duties in a timely manner.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Ophthalmic procedural/diagnostic coding.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Ophthalmic anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, ocular mobility, clinical optics and contact lenses.
  • Travel to outreach areas with provider, time and mileage reimbursed.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (CPR), MA-R, and Surg Tech certifications/licensures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
