About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician 1 performs skilled duties related to the eye. This position assists the physician and is part of the health care team for ocular health. Requirements

Basic understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.
Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance.
Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients.
Requires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks.
Must maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.
Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
Less than 1 Year of Experience

Nice To Haves

Must have at least 1 year of ophthalmology or optometry clinic experience

Responsibilities

Initiates and documents the patient's chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history, review of systems, and pertinent ocular findings accurately. Follows compliance guidelines.
Performs testing including visual acuity measurement, lensometry, pupil function testing, ocular motility, tonometry, and confrontation visual field testing. Provides other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist.
Performs refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription.
Performs various specialty tests ordered by a physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), and color vision testing.
Assists with minor surgeries, intraocular injections, and laser treatments. Prepares patients for sterile procedures in exam or treatment rooms.
Educates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician.
Handles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely.
Administers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician.
Opens and closes exam lanes. Ensures equipment is cleaned and disinfected. Makes sure battery-powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells. Ensures lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.
