About The Position

The Ophthalmic Echographer 1 (OE1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The position documents in the EMR system and performs ocular diagnostic examinations using ultrasound echography instrumentation in compliance with department standards. This role involves performing various diagnostic tests, including A-scan biometry, IOL Master, contact/immersion A-Scan, high-resolution B-scan, standardized A-scan, complex globe and orbital exams, imaging extraocular muscles, and keratometry. The position also requires adherence to University policies, patient confidentiality, and safety standards, as well as maintaining equipment and stocking rooms. Travel to satellite centers, working evenings and weekends, and participating in clinical research may be required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
BLS from American Heart Association
1 year of experience in ophthalmic ultrasound
Works well with patients of all age groups.
Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Performs ocular diagnostic examinations using ultrasonic echography instrumentation, documents procedures, and uploads images in the electronic medical record/PACS system.
Provides patient-centric care.

Maintains a professional appearance.
Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.
Completes the University of Miami mandatory in-services and online training.
Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

Performs organizational duties as assigned.
Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities.
Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary.
Works evenings and weekends as needed.
Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications.
Performs diagnostic testing including but not limited to A-scan biometry and IOL Master, Contact/immersion A-Scan, High-resolution B-scan and standardized A-scan, Unsupervised, complex globe and orbital exams, Imaging & measuring extraocular muscles with B-scan and diagnostic A-scan, Keratometry.
