About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to perform basic ophthalmic workups for new and return patients under regular guidance. This role provides general clinical support, including performing visual fields or other patient testing. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience Level: Less than 1 year
  • Ophthalmology (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training or direct exposure working with ophthalmology.
  • Ophthalmic Disorders (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training or direct exposure working with ophthalmic disorders.
  • Ophthalmic Testing (Fundamental Awareness): Has limited experience, training, or direct exposure working with ophthalmic testing.
  • Customer Service (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates an awareness of the need for good customer relations. Asks questions to identify customer's needs or expectations. Understands the need to provide ongoing dialogue with and service support to the organization's customers. Understands the distinction between direct customer and ultimate consumer. Demonstrates an orientation and sensitivity to customer service. Prohibits personal emotions from interfering and influencing customer responses.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic ophthalmic workup and testing with supervision.
  • Assists faculty, residents and technical staff with daily clinical needs as directed.
  • Interacts with the patient in a professional manner using AIDET techniques.
  • Maintains clean working environment, stocked rooms, equipment, and EOC guidelines.
  • Performs tasks that are typically routine that may impact team's performance with occasional guidance.
  • Utilizes some discretion and research to solve routine problems.
  • Applies knowledge of standards, established processes and procedure that apply to your own job.
  • Provides guidance to entry level co-workers.
  • Continuously improves own skills by identifying development opportunities.
  • Seeks to understand colleagues' priorities, working styles and develops relationships across areas.
  • Openly shares information with others and communicates in a clear and courteous manner.
