About The Position

Responsible for conducting technical and administrative patient support activities that assist the professional staff (Ophthalmologist, Orthoptist, Residents, etc.) in administering the healthcare and support needed for patients and families in the outpatient ophthalmic clinic. This role involves modifying patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions, preparing patients for visual field tests, and recording patient history and chief eye complaint. The Ophthalmic Assistant also maintains a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering test sequences as required, and performs color vision testing and glare/brightness testing. Additionally, the role requires implementing infection control policies and procedures, and recording and updating current eye medications and eye history/medical history in the patient’s health record. The position serves and protects the healthcare community by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • experience in an ophthalmic or health care related setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing.
  • Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Ability to maintain motivation to achieve goals while dealing with challenges.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat DC.
