About The Position

The Ophthalmic Assistant Certified is responsible for patient care, including rooming patients, collecting assessment data, administering medications, and performing patient care procedures as directed. They will assist physicians during treatments, testing, and examinations, and perform various vision tests and procedures such as refractometry, lensometry, fundus photography, visual fields, OCT, keratometry, and tonometry. The role also involves maintaining patient flow, providing patient and family education, documenting patient care, handling telephone calls and triaging patients, and reviewing/maintaining charts.

Requirements

High School diploma.
Certified by JCAHPO as an assistant.

Nice To Haves

Education as a paraprofessional in ophthalmology or optometry.

Responsibilities

Responsible for patient care.
Rooms and collects patient assessment data.
Administers medications and performs other patient care procedures as directed and according to established criteria.
Assists physicians during treatment, testing and examinations.
Performs vision tests including refractometry and autorefractor, lensometer, color vision, stereo, fundus photography, corneal topography, visual fields, OCT, keratometry, tonopen/applanation.
Assists in minor room procedures.
Maintains timely flow of patients.
Provides patient and family education.
Documents patient care and related information.
Responds to incoming telephone calls.
Performs telephone triaging of patients.
Follows up on patient care as needed.
Reviews and maintains charts.
