About The Position

Calpine, a business unit of Constellation Energy Corporation, is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources. With 79 energy facilities, Calpine's fleet has the capacity to generate approximately 27,000 MW of electricity. The company is committed to environmental stewardship and uses renewable geothermal plants to produce clean electricity. This role is responsible for the start, stop, and monitoring of equipment, including reading gauges and meters, and recording activities. The position involves using computers and monitoring equipment for adjustments, performing mechanical and electrical equipment maintenance and repair, and conducting chemical analysis and control for various plant systems. Incumbents will assist in developing standard operational procedures and providing input for plant improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety. They must ensure compliance with all regulations and plant procedures, maintain plant security, operate heavy equipment, and handle bulk chemicals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and attendance in trade school, military service or equivalent.
  • Entry level; minimum 2 years directly related experience including understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Previous experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals and waste materials including knowledge of safe handling, storage, and transport.
  • Previous experience using test equipment and calibration appliances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
  • Begins to achieve primary certifications/licensures.

Responsibilities

  • Start, stop, and monitor equipment, including reading gauges and meters and recording activities in operating logs and records.
  • Use computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record, and make adjustments within operating parameters.
  • Perform a variety of plant maintenance tasks including diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks.
  • Perform chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems, and maintain chemistry logs.
  • Assist in the development of standard operational procedures.
  • Provide input to plant betterment items to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations and plant procedures.
  • Maintain plant security.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as manlifts and forklifts.
  • Handle and transfer bulk chemicals.
  • Perform standardized, ongoing duties and tasks.
  • Make routine decisions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate performance of responsibilities for a single trade, group of closely related tasks or functional area with guidance.
  • Resolve routine questions and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher levels.
  • Work under direct supervision and/or defined parameters.
  • Prioritize basic tasks, with priorities typically guided by standard practices or by others.
  • Receive training but use some specialized skills where technical experience can be applied to assigned tasks.
  • Assist more experienced Operator Technicians.
