About The Position

The Operator Technician I is responsible for the start, stop, and monitoring of equipment, including reading gauges and meters, and recording activities. They use computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record, and make adjustments within operating parameters. This role performs field operation tasks, including diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently. It also involves overhaul maintenance, system improvement tasks, and chemical analysis and control for various systems, maintaining chemistry logs. Incumbents assist in developing standard operational procedures and provide input for plant improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety, ensuring compliance with all regulations and plant procedures. Regular duties include maintaining plant security, operating valve crankers, and handling bulk chemicals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and attendance in trade school, military service or equivalent.
  • Entry level; minimum 2 years directly related experience.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Previous experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals and waste materials including knowledge of safe handling, storage, and transport.
  • Previous experience using test equipment and calibration appliances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
  • Begins to achieve primary certifications/licensures.

Responsibilities

  • Start, stop, and monitor equipment, including reading gauges and meters and recording activities in operating logs and records.
  • Use computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record, and make adjustments within operating parameters.
  • Perform a variety of Field Operation tasks including diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks.
  • Perform chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling, and condensate systems, and maintain chemistry logs.
  • Assist in the development of standard operational procedures and provide input to plant betterment items to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations and plant procedures.
  • Regularly maintain plan security, operate valve crankers and handle and transfer bulk chemicals.
  • Rotating Shift Work.
  • Perform standardized, ongoing duties and tasks.
  • Make routine decisions.
  • With guidance, ensure timely and accurate performance of responsibilities for a single trade, group of closely related tasks or functional area.
  • Resolve routine questions and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher levels.
  • Prioritize basic tasks, with priorities typically guided by standard practices or by others.
  • Receive training but use some specialized skills where technical experience can be applied to assigned tasks.
  • Assist more experienced Operator Technicians.
