About The Position

The Operator Slitter operates a slitter machine to process steel coil and helps manage the slitter crew’s production activity. The role includes verifying coil, machine setup, and job orders; inspecting coil and finished product for quality; recording production information; and maintaining workstation cleanliness. The position requires three to six months of on-the-job training. High school diploma/GED and one year of slitter experience are preferred.

Requirements

• Three to six months of on-the-job training required.
• Dependability and consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Reading and math skills, including knowledge of fractions and decimal computations.
• Verbal and written comprehension skills.
• Ability to measure using a tape measure, micrometers, and/or calipers.
• Operational knowledge of slitter machines and ability to troubleshoot simple problems.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines.
• A team mentality.
• Ability to stand and/or bend repetitively during normal duties.
• Ability to lift 25–75 pounds during normal duties.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of slitter experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a safety evaluation of the assigned workstation and surrounding area.
• Verify that the steel coil, machine setup, and job order match before machine operation.
• Operate the slitter machine using the push-button control panel.
• Manage production activity of the slitter crew.
• Perform visual quality inspections of steel coil during loading and operation, and inspect the finished product.
• Record production information on required forms.
• Perform housekeeping tasks in the workstation and surrounding area as required.
