Perform a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. This role involves performing emergency roadway operations as an essential employee. You will operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles to perform maintenance and construction-related work tasks. This includes preparing and operating equipment for snow and ice removal, clearing roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and cleaning up after accidents. You will also be responsible for traffic control, determining and demonstrating proper work site protection techniques, identifying workplace safety hazards, and wearing proper personal protective equipment. Maintaining knowledge of current safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA, VOSHA, etc.), using equipment properly and safely, and applying MUTCD for detours, lane closures, and work zones are crucial. The role also involves participating as a working member of the crew, performing manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed, and using a variety of hand and power tools. Additionally, you will perform maintenance repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance, and complete pre-trip inspections for all operated vehicles and equipment. You will install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices for work zones, detours, and lane closures, and assist in tracking inventory and maintaining records.
