About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Operator in Training is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities. The role conducts routine water testing, records results, maintains accurate plant logs, and helps keep treatment equipment and the facility in good working order. The employee monitors operating equipment and instrumentation, supports chemical treatment processes, reports repair needs, and performs housekeeping and grounds upkeep. The employee is routinely exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including very hot temperatures. Noise levels are usually moderate.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Valid Mississippi driver's license.
Ability to learn wastewater treatment plant operations and obtain appropriate licenses.
Ability to operate electric motors fueled by gasoline, diesel, or gaseous fuels, as well as paint, welding, fabrication equipment, and other required hand tools.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine water testing as directed, record test results, and maintain accurate and timely entries in the plant log book.
Maintain facility treatment units, including the settling basin, filters, sampling equipment, and pumps.
Identify and report repair needs for plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed equipment.
Monitor charts, gauges, and other operating equipment, and maintain calibration of plant instrumentation and online analyzers at required frequencies.
Calculate chemical feed rates, calibrate chemical equipment, and adjust feed rates based on laboratory tests or direction from the Water Plant Manager to meet water quality requirements.
Adjust or alter chemical treatment of plant processes as required.
Perform housekeeping and grounds upkeep, including mopping, dusting, mowing, and weed eating.
