About The Position

Maryland Environmental Service is hiring an Operator-In-Training or an experienced Operator at the Freedom Wastewater Treatment Plant in Sykesville, Maryland. The Operator-In-Training apprenticeship is a three-year program combining on-the-job training, independent study, and in-house professional mentoring and coaching. OITs receive periodic pay raises during the apprenticeship based on established benchmarks and job performance. Successful graduates will be offered Operator positions with MES. The starting salary for an OIT is $41,736.24; the estimated pay range is $41,745.60–$79,781.52. The position is open until filled. Employment offers are contingent on successfully completing required pre-employment screening, including a full background check, drug and alcohol screening, and a position-appropriate physical. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; MES does not sponsor work visas.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Driver's license with fewer than five points.
Candidates should be mechanically inclined and have good basic math skills.
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Must successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including a full background check, drug and alcohol screening, and a position-appropriate physical.

Responsibilities

Complete on-the-job training and an independent study program during the three-year apprenticeship.
Participate in professional in-house mentoring and coaching.
