About The Position

The Forklift Operator III position is a skilled operational role responsible for handling heavier and more complex cargo movements within the terminal. This position builds upon Level II competencies and includes operating larger equipment and transporting heavy and over-dimensional loads using Mafi trailers and other specialized gear. Operators and drivers at this level must demonstrate advanced proficiency, safety awareness, and coordination in high-traffic, high-risk environments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of advanced equipment and vehicle operation training.
  • Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment and handling over-dimensional cargo.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of load dynamics and safety standards.
  • TWIC card required (or ability to obtain).
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a coordinated team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate PITs with capacities greater than 15,000 lbs, up to 36,000 lbs.
  • Safely operate the following equipment: Forklift (up to 36K lbs), Front-End Loader, JLG (aerial lift), and/or Track Mobile.
  • Operate with attachments for handling various commodities.
  • Load/unload yard trucks, over-the-road trucks, and railcars in terminal and dock environments.
  • Operate equipment on vessels for cargo stowage and discharge.
  • Handle over-dimensional loads in tandem with another machine.
  • Stack cargoes properly in storage areas.
  • Ensure no personnel are in the immediate work area during loading/unloading.
  • Follow rules for unattended machinery and comply with all safety procedures.
