About The Position

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is seeking an Operator I for the Neshaminy/Bristol Treatment Plants. This role involves shift work and requires the employee to obtain and maintain a Waterworks Operators Class A license within three years. The position requires labor-intensive work, including lifting up to 75 pounds, and adherence to all Aqua safety requirements for hazardous chemical handling and PPE. The role also demands good mechanical skills for equipment repair/replacement and the ability to perform mathematical calculations for treatment processes. Availability for overtime is necessary to ensure continuous plant operations. Applicants must possess a valid US driver's license and will be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C, with a Hazardous Material Endorsement within a specified timeframe. The position may also require participation in the Hazmat Response Team if one is maintained. This role is subject to federal regulations regarding commercial driver's licenses, including random drug and alcohol testing, reasonable suspicion testing, post-accident testing, return-to-duty testing, and bi-annual medical certification.

Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain a Waterworks Operators Class A license with all associated modules within 3 years.
  • Associate degree, or 2 years trade school or similar education, or 2 years’ experience in waterworks field or similar field requiring use of mechanical, treatment, and/or mathematical skills.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Ability to meet and follow all Aqua safety requirements dealing with hazardous chemical handling and PPE requirements.
  • Good mechanical skills for repair/replacement of plant equipment.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations for treatment processes.
  • Valid US driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License, Class C, with a Hazardous Material Endorsement within the required time period.
  • Must pass written examination and potentially a field test.
  • Must pass required knowledge testing and receive the required learner’s permit within 60 days of job award.
  • Must secure a CDL with necessary endorsements within 120 days of obtaining learner's permit.
  • Must successfully obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate prior to starting in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a Waterworks Operators Class A license with all associated modules.
  • Perform labor-intensive work, including lifting requirements of 75 pounds.
  • Meet and follow all Aqua safety requirements dealing with hazardous chemical handling and PPE requirements.
  • Utilize good mechanical skills in the repair/replacement of all plant equipment, including pumps, instruments, and chemical feed equipment.
  • Make mathematical calculations to determine chemical doses required for flow rates and proper treatment.
  • Be available for overtime as needed to maintain continuous plant operations.
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License, Class C, with a Hazardous Material Endorsement within the required time period.
  • Perform as a member of the Hazmat Response Team if a team is maintained.
  • Undergo random drug and alcohol testing, reasonable suspicion testing, post-accident testing, and return-to-duty testing.
  • Obtain bi-annual medical certification (physical examination).
