About The Position

This is a First Shift position operating machines that break down railcar wheelsets, recondition axles for reuse in new sets, mount new wheels to reconditioned axles, recondition wheelsets, move material, and press new bearings onto reconditioned or new wheelsets. Attention to detail is crucial as these sets are used on trains that travel nationwide, requiring proper operation for safe travel.

Requirements

Basic shop math
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to work any shift, overtime and weekends to meet business demands
Complete understanding of safe work practices
Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision
Ability to read and write legibly
Quality oriented
Team player
Strong attention to detail
Organizational skills
Flexibility in shift and schedule
Good attendance record

Responsibilities

Operate machines to break down railcar wheelsets.
Recondition axles for use in new sets.
Mount new wheels to reconditioned axles.
Recondition wheelsets.
Move material.
Press new bearings on reconditioned or new wheelsets.
Use measuring devices (i.e. gages, calipers).
Read micrometers and work to tight tolerances.
Operate overhead cranes.
Follow all work procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
Abide by all safety regulations.
Complete production reports with accuracy.
Other duties as assigned.
