About The Position
This position is responsible for operating electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives; interpreting train orders, signals, and rules and regulations; transporting freight; and the timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars.
Requirements
- High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred
- Dependable with reliable transportation
- Strong verbal and written communication; active listening skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage tasks efficiently
- Works well in a team environment and under pressure
- Follows direction from all levels of management

Responsibilities
- Inspect locomotives before operation
- Operate throttle and airbrakes to move locomotive
- Interpret train orders, signals, and rules to ensure safe movement
- Observe tracks for obstructions
- Prepare reports on delays, accidents, or other issues
- Lubricate locomotive parts
- Operate switches, derails, gates, and related equipment
- Use radio, hand, and lantern signals to control movement
- Apply and release hand brakes; couple/uncouple rail cars; handle hoses and chocks
- Wear required PPE at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
