About The Position

Hawaiian Electric is currently establishing an external applicant pool, from which qualified applicants may be considered for a full-time Operator Helper position vacancy on Maui. This position requires successfully passing an aptitude and skills test - additional information will be provided after applications are reviewed. Current employees would not be considered for this external applicant pool but may apply to an internally posted job requisition when a position vacancy becomes available.

Requirements

Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.
Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Plant Operator Selection System (POSS).
Must pass the Job Sample Test.

Nice To Haves

Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the POSS.

Responsibilities

Trains to perform the duties of Senior Operator Helper at the diesel plant.
Performs general maintenance work as assigned.
Mans a shift with a Senior Operator Helper and an Operator at the diesel plant and trains to perform the duties of these classifications.
Is assigned operational maintenance work at the diesel plant.
May perform in relief capacity, standing watch as Senior Operator Helper when qualified.
Keeps equipment and work area clean.
Maintains watch until relieved.
Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
Trains to perform the duties of senior Operator Helper at the steam plant.
Is assigned operational maintenance work at the steam plant.
May perform in relief capacity, standing watch as Sr. Operator Helper when qualified.
Helps on overhauls when available.
