The purpose of this position is to accomplish the packaging of frozen food products made on the assigned production lines at the Brunswick facility by performing tasks involved in operating the carton formers and meeting quality specifications and production needs. The role contributes to the profitability of the company by performing tasks in a safe, efficient, quality-conscious, and cost-conscious manner and by working cooperatively with the Team Leader and team members.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years Machine operator experience required.
  • Basic computer skills including Excel and Word.
  • Self-motivated and ability to take initiative and use sound judgment in day-to-day decision making.
  • Punctual and reliable in work attendance.
  • Ability to organize and communicate to all levels of personnel.
  • Flexible and able to manage others.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent English communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Learns how to operate the carton formers and to package product to meet quality specifications and production needs, building on processing knowledge.
  • Performs specific tasks associated with the carton former process for all assigned machines.
  • Setting up all equipment so that it will run properly.
  • Assisting maintenance mechanics with preventive maintenance of machinery and by reporting any problems with operation or suspected maintenance needs.
  • Preparing carton formers to run the correct cartons needed for the product.
  • Making sure that the correct materials are brought to the line; if not, notifying Forklift Driver to remove and bring the correct ones.
  • Unstacking cartons from the pallet, stacking them on the carton lift, placing the cartons properly in the machine and making adjustments so the machine will run properly.
  • Ensuring the formers are correctly set up before shift and listing any defects.
  • Assisting in the set-up and operation of other packaging equipment as requested by the Team Leader or as production needs dictate, including sealers, baggers, tape machines, metal detectors, and check weighers.
  • Adding the proper weight so cartons are pulled one at a time.
  • Periodically checking to make sure that the cartons are formed correctly; notifies Production Team Leader immediately of any problems such as color changes on cartons, and works with QA Auditor and Group Leader to correct problems.
  • Sweeping debris on the floor into small piles, picking it up with a dustpan, and placing it in the proper waste container.
  • Disposing of paper, plastic or other packaging material into the proper trash container.
  • Pushing trash carts, waste carts, or carrying tubs of waste materials to proper disposal area.
  • Using a low-pressure water hose to wash down the last traces of food debris down the drain, consistent with plant wastewater and sanitation policies.
  • Using a rubber squeegee to push water off the floor toward and down floor drains.
  • Preparing all paperwork required for quality and production records.
