About The Position

Our employer partner, in the Manufacturing industry, is currently looking to add an experienced Operator to their team! The Slitting Line Operator is responsible for accurately slitting steel coils into various widths for both internal production needs and external customers. As a critical feeder role for downstream operations, this position ensures that production lines receive high-quality, properly prepared material on time. The operator leads and directs the slitting crew to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the slitting line while meeting customer specifications and company standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED/CAEC) required
  • 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training preferred
  • Exceptional knowledge of types of steel, and prior experience operating slitting machinery or equipment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify previous shift’s setup; ensure correct line configuration according to setup guides and work orders
  • Operate both automatic and manual slitting lines with a high level of competency
  • Set up, program and run the slitting line using control panels or manual feed, based on material and job requirements
  • Troubleshoot machine or process issues with minimal supervision to minimize downtime
  • Operate overhead bridge crane safely to handle and position materials
  • Read, interpret, and complete slitting work orders accurately
  • Confirm traceability by verifying master coils trade IDs, coil numbers, and inspection numbers against work orders
  • Ensure all slit coils meet customer specifications and internal JSC quality standards
  • Maintain production efficiency by managing changeovers, coordinating material handling, and minimizing scrap or rework
  • Provide direction and support to crew members for smooth and safe line operation
  • Collaborate with material handlers, other operators, Team Leads and Shift Manager to ensure seamless workflow and communication
  • Ensure incoming and outgoing material is staged and organized to support current and next shift needs
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment
  • Utilize measuring tools (verniers, micrometers, calipers) and inspection equipment with precision to verify coil dimensions and tolerances
  • Be intuitive to abnormal machine behavior (e.g., unusual sounds, mechanical faults) and respond quickly
  • Maintain tools and equipment in excellent working condition
  • React swiftly and effectively to priority or schedule changes
  • Assist in identifying process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime
  • Contribute to team goals and performance targets related to throughput, scrap rate, and quality
